Back again...

Yep, back again for a second day in a row of blogging. Wow, that's a record for me in the last few months! I'm not even really sure why I'm blogging except for the fact that I'm on my wireless connection on my laptop, dead tired, yet refuse to go to bed. Could I even be blogging in bed right now if I wanted? Sure. But I'm too tired/lazy to wander over there...

I think I'm tired too because of the crazy day of work I've had. I had a few customers who sapped up all my energy...well them and my dramatic coworkers. Everday people talk about quitting or wanting to quit or hating the new management...or even just hating the lunch they got (today would be Melissa's KFC she ordered that had "bones." Yeah, that's right, she got KFC and thought the grilled chicken she got was boneless. It wasn't. So it was the end of the world. It took all my energy not to tell her how ridiculously overreactive she is.

And then there was the Maury show with the woman who cheated on her husband and wasn't sure if he was the real father. He wasn't. Nor were the other 5 guys she's called in to 4 different shows. So apparently it's the 6th guy she slept with...

Ok so that didn't make me much more tired. Nor did the black guy on Maury who found out that he's not the father of his white wife and her even-whiter white kids. Go figure huh? Reminded me of "Me, Myself, and Irene." If you don't know what I mean, watch the movie and look at the color of Jim Carrey's kids.

Well there were plenty of other things that made me tired but, ironically, I'm too tired to go on. I must sleep now...and dream of times of less sleepiness...

Man has it been a LONG time since I've blogged! I've been busy trying to get my wireless internet working. After plenty of tweaking, I FINALLY got it to work, not thanks to my Belkin wireless card. I didn't want to have to do it, but when I bought a D-Link card to match my D-Link router, life has been MUCH easier.

Hate to keep this so short, but back to surfin' I go...

Starbucks promotes homosexual agenda with coffee cup

Looks like I'm going to have to boycott Starbucks for yet another reason...I never did like their exorbitant prices; now I have even more reason to not want to let them have any of my money...

Starbucks promotes homosexual agenda with coffee cup

Aug 12, 2005
By Erin Curry
Baptist Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--After nearly a decade of lying low, Starbucks has reentered the homosexual rights movement in a few ways that have put at least one conservative watchdog group on alert.

The world’s most famous coffee shop chain has begun a program called “The Way I See It,” which is a collection of thoughts, opinions and expressions provided by notable figures that now appear on Starbucks coffee cups, according to the chain’s website.

But one particular quote -- #43 -- blatantly pushes the homosexual agenda. It’s by Armistead Maupin, who wrote “Tales of the City,” a bestseller-turned-PBS drama advocating the homosexual lifestyle, and it reads:

“My only regret about being gay is that I repressed it for so long. I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don’t make that mistake yourself. Life’s too [expletive] short.”

Concerned Women for America, one of the nation’s leading conservative public policy organizations, is sounding the alarm about the cups after one of its employees received one when she purchased coffee from one of the stores.

Meghan Kleppinger, assistant to the national field director at CWA, wrote a column about Starbucks’ involvement in the homosexual movement which was posted by WorldNetDaily Aug. 10.

Kleppinger, who had been a frequent patron of Starbucks until recently vowing to stop, was put on notice about Starbucks earlier this summer when she received an e-mail from the California arm of CWA describing an annual “gay pride” parade in San Diego. The parade sounded like a typical event, she thought, until she read on.

“I read where there would be children’s gardens and basically in the midst of all of this sexual activity there would be events for children,” she said Aug. 8. “And then I read that two registered pedophiles were volunteers at this event. When I scrolled to the bottom I saw who the sponsors were, and the one that jumped out was Starbucks because that is a favorite company of mine. So it just frustrated me that a company was giving money to something like this where children would be exposed to this sort of thing.”

If Starbucks knowingly was sponsoring a parade that put children in danger, that would be “blatant irresponsibility,” Kleppinger wrote in her column. And if they were doing it unknowingly, they should have investigated before handing over the money, she said.

Kleppinger then found that the company is listed on the website of pro-abortion rights Planned Parenthood under this introduction: “The following companies all generously match employee donations to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. If your employer is on this list, then you can make your gift go as much as twice as far.”

And at “gay pride” events in Seattle, Wash., in July, about 75 Starbucks employees wore promotional T-shirts while followed by a van with the company logo in a parade, Kleppinger reported, and employees passed out samples of a new specialty coffee drink.

Robert Knight, director of the organization’s Culture & Family Institute, noted that Starbucks is not alone in pushing the homosexual agenda.

“There are active homosexual groups in most major corporations now and they do a shake down, where they say, ‘If you don’t promote our events, you’re exhibiting bigotry and hatred, and we’re going to let everybody know that and you’ll feel bad about yourself and maybe it will hurt your sales.’ I don’t think it has ever hurt a company’s sales. I think they just cave in all too easily,” Knight said Aug. 8.

“But Starbucks was promoting homosexuality about 10 years ago ... and a lot of conservative groups got together and said, ‘Why are you doing this?’ and I remember getting a letter back from them about 10 years ago saying, ‘Well, you know, we were doing it, but it was an oversight and we’re not doing it anymore,’” he added. “And I noticed that over the years Starbucks was not among the corporate logos at the bottom of these ads sponsoring gay pride events -- until recently. They’ve started to creep back in.”

Once CWA employees were made aware of the possible harm to children at the San Diego events sponsored by Starbucks, they decided to speak up. They are not calling specifically for a boycott of Starbucks, but they are trying to alert as many people as possible to what the company is doing, Knight said.

“The American Family Association has been doing this for years with great results. Often we don’t see the results because a company will notice that it has gotten out to thousands of people and they pull back whatever thing they were doing that caused the concern in the first place,” he said.

“And then they ask the American Family Association, ‘Don’t make a big deal out of it because then we’ll have the gay pride activists on us.’ So they just back away. Many victories have been won like that and the public isn’t aware of it. ... Most companies do not want bad publicity. They don’t want customers mad at them, and they’ll do almost anything to avoid a boycott or something short of a boycott like publicizing what Starbucks is doing right now.”

Knight suggested a strategy for Christians -- letting Starbucks know they are not happy with the company’s promotion of the homosexual agenda.

“It’s not enough not to go to Starbucks anymore,” he said. “You really need to visit your neighborhood Starbucks and ask to see the manager and just say, ‘You know, I’ve gone here a lot and I would love to go here but I have to tell you your company’s promotion of something that is against my values prevents me from having coffee here anymore, and I’ve found alternatives ... You make a great product, but you deserve to know why people aren’t buying your product anymore.’

“That strategy goes for almost anything,” Knight added. “Anytime you find out that a company has been sponsoring something that you disagree with, it’s best to tell at the dealer or shop or store level people why you’re not buying their product anymore. Believe me, this gets back to corporate headquarters real fast.”

Starbucks said it started the “The Way I See It” program “as an extension of the coffeehouse culture -- a way to promote open, respectful conversation among a wide variety of individuals.” Some notable figures whose quotes appear on the cups include actor Quincy Jones, New Age author Deepak Chopra, film critic Michael Medved, Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and coaching legend John Wooden.

The coffee chain welcomes comments on the program or a specific quote via an online feedback form, available at www.starbucks.com, or through brochures in stores.

Hurricane Rita...
Topic: ramblings
Well the second big storm to hit the gulf coast this year, Hurricane Rita, has touched down. The city of Austin was relatively untouched, weather-wise, by the storm, but at last count they reported 17,000 evacuees from South/Southeast Texas and Louisiana were finding shelter in Austin. Our Convention Center still had Hurricane Katrina evacuees so they started housing evacuees in nearby schools. Not sure when/if they are going to transport those evacuees and get school back on schedule.

I also found out that my brother, Brad, and his wife and daughter decided to move back to the NW and start life back up there. Brad and the family haven't even been back to New Orleans to see what condition his apartment is in. When I spoke with him on the phone he acted like they would fly back someday (soon I'm assuming?) to see what the situation is still at his old apartment and take/ship back whatever belongings they still want to keep (i.e. not ruined by the looting or stinking to high heavens).

Hurricane Katrina
Topic: family
Ok so everyone and their mother is blogging about Hurricane Katrina. I'm not going to waste your time with my opinion on the whole situation...at least not on this particular blog.

I would much rather talk about how my family was affected personally. My brother, Brad, and his wife and daughter lived in New Orleans before this hurricane, and now they aren't even sure what's left of their apartment. They fled to Dallas, TX and are staying with some friends of his sister-in-law (Johanna's sister). I was fortunate enough to be able to go and visit him last Saturday with my girlfriend, Liza. They seem to be doing good, considering what they've been through and the fact they may have to start their lives over. Brad is already looking for jobs in Dallas.

My other brother, Ben, and his wife and four kids all stayed in Covington (north of New Orleans) during the storm. Thank God they were uninjured and their house not damaged (they did lose a few trees to the storm, however). The power and phone lines were all knocked down in their town, so they had quite a few nights of sleeping on the tile floor (the "coldest" part of the house) and drinking questionable water.

Well, from the beginning, Liza and I suggested they leave and stay with us. They took us up on the offer after the storm and last Monday they all arrived to our quaint little apartment. With all of us there, we now get just under 90 square feet of space a piece. Not a whole lot of room to move around in...but of course it could always be worse. Kami actually left Tuesday morning to go to a seminar in California; she'll be home Sunday night. Meanwhile, Ben and the kids have been chilling at our place while Liza and I go to work. It's the least I can do for Ben and his family considering all of the times they let me stay at their place rent free. Although, in my defense, I usually spent most of my time babysitting while I was staying with them :)

1st day at WaMu...
Mood:  spacey
Topic: ramblings
Well I finished my first day of work at WaMu (aka Washington Mutual) today! And boy am I exhausted! I spent about 20 minutes going over the security points at my new job, and literally the rest of the day (short of my hour long lunch) was spent standing at a "concierge station" greeting people as they came in and reading everything there is to know about WaMu. Did you know the bank was originally founded in 1886? Yeah, it was after a major fire in Seattle almost destroyed the city...

Anyway, like I said, I'm really tired from having to stand up all day. You know how it is when you go to church on one of the busy days (i.e. Christmas/Easter) and there is standing room only? Well multiply that hour by 8 and you can imagine how my legs wanna fall off. But then again, I gotta kinda get used to it since none of the tellers have chairs. I just hope I can get trained soon enough so that I can be sitting at a desk and doing what I was hired to do: represent the bank while assisting others on their personal finances. A "Personal Financial Representative" if you will :)

So, although the day seemed unproductive, I did get all of the disclosures and privacy statements read and signed so at least that's done with :) And I get to work tomorrow from 9am to 1pm...a short day so it outta be fairly nice and easy. Guess we will just have to wait and see...

Still alive...

Wow it has been forever since I've posted to my blog! Well, two months and one day to be exact...

Since my last posting I have celebrated my 23rd birthday, quit my job at Electra, packed up all of my belongings (except three pieces of luggage, a laptop, a backpack, and a airplane ticket), moved to Texas, traveled to Brownsville (Texas) and then onto Matamoros (Mexico), bought a car (1996 Honda Civic), and got a job at Washington Mutual as a Senior Personal Financial Representative. So...not a whole lot. :) It actually sounds like I've done quite a bit, but I have to admit I've done a lot of lazyin' around and playing video games too.

For the record, my job at WaMu doesn't actually start until this Friday. So...come Friday I'll be a working man again :) And it will be just shy of two months since I quit my job at Electra.

I really miss Electra (and the NW for that matter) but I am sooooo glad to finally be able to be with my baby here in Austin. The distance surely made the last two years rough, but finally we are together!

More later, but for now I need to finish cooking the lasagna for Liza is on her way home from work. And...we are both too hungry to wait while I blog...

Ahhh...June 1st...
Mood:  happy
Topic: ramblings
Well it's June 1st, which means two things:

1. My birthday is only a week away. As I told people at work, I am 22 and 51/52 years old today. Yeah, don't worry, they gave me the same strange look...

2. I'm going to Texas *THIS* month! The wait is finally (almost) over: I'll see you soon baby!

Now who wants to help me pack? :)

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
